The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced the capture of Abubakar Bawa Ibrahim, also known as Habu Dogo, a notorious terrorist leader wanted for numerous killings and kidnappings across Sokoto State. Dogo, a high-priority target for both Nigerian and Niger Republic security agencies, was apprehended by troops in Rumji Village, Illela Local Government Area (LGA).

Major-General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, confirmed the arrest and emphasized Dogo’s cross-border criminal activities, making him a prime target on both nations’ watch lists.

In related operations, Nigerian troops also conducted sweeping raids in the South-East, capturing seven key commanders and operatives linked to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN). Among those arrested were Dr. Nnamdi Chukwudoze and Chigozie Ezetoha, also known as “Chapet,” in Ihiala LGA of Anambra State, along with Mrs. Ngozi Chukwuka and Mr. Oyekachi Ohia in Umuahia South LGA, Abia State.

The Nigerian military has maintained relentless pressure on criminal elements nationwide. According to Major-General Buba, recent operations resulted in the neutralization of 187 terrorists and the arrest of 311 criminals, including those involved in oil theft. Furthermore, troops rescued 147 kidnapped victims, dealing a heavy blow to criminal networks.

Key Achievements from Nationwide Operations

1. North-West Successes: Troops from Operation Hadarin Daji reported significant wins in the region. Fifty-one terrorists were neutralized, 55 were apprehended, and 81 hostages rescued. Seized items included 26 AK-47 rifles, five pump-action guns, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition, demonstrating the operation’s substantial impact.

2. Intense Firefights in Zamfara and Sokoto: On October 21, troops encountered armed terrorists in Maradun and Isa LGAs of Zamfara and Sokoto States, resulting in 13 terrorists neutralized. Among the recovered items were nine AK-47 rifles, three pump-action guns, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.

3. Kidnappers Routed in Kaduna: On October 23, troops patrolling Birnin Gwari LGA in Kaduna responded to intel on terrorist activities, successfully rescuing four hostages and recovering an AK-47 rifle and mobile phones.

4. Coordinated Strikes Across Multiple States: Between October 22 and 28, troops engaged terrorists in Rabah and Tsafe LGAs (Sokoto and Zamfara), as well as Wasagu and Batsari LGAs (Kebbi and Katsina), neutralizing 17 terrorists, arresting 11, and liberating one hostage. Recovered items included AK-47 rifles, locally fabricated firearms, motorcycles, and mobile phones.

These victories reflect the commitment of Nigerian security forces to restore stability in conflict-ridden regions. With high-profile captures like Habu Dogo, the military is making substantial progress in its mission to curb terrorism, reassure citizens, and secure the nation’s borders.
