Troops of the 6 Brigade, Sector 3 of ‘Operation Whirl Stroke’ (OPWS) have arrested a suspected gun runner and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition during a stop-and-search operation in Taraba State.
This was disclosed via a statement issued by the acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade Lieutenant Umar Muhammad.
The statement said vigilant troops on sentry duty intercepted an Audi vehicle with registration number RBC 798 DV (Abuja) for routine checks.
The operation, which took place on February 21, 2026, the brigade disclosed was carried out at Sarkin Kudu in Ibi Local Government Area following credible and actionable intelligence.
A thorough search of the vehicle led to the arrest of Mr. Monday Reuben, a 48-year-old man from Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
Items recovered from the suspect include two AK-47 rifles, 197 empty magazines, one box of 7.62 x 51mm NATO ammunition containing 250 rounds, fourteen packs of 9mm Parabellum ammunition containing 700 rounds, and 19 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
In total, troops recovered 969 rounds of live ammunition.
Other items found in his possession include the sum of ₦2,440,000, a wallet containing four different identification cards and four ATM cards, one Android phone, one Itel keypad phone, a power bank, eight bottles of perfume, a rechargeable touch light, and assorted local charms.
The brigade confirmed that the suspect and all recovered items are currently in custody and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and necessary action.

Commending the troops for their alertness and professionalism, the Commander, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Akaliro, emphasized the need to maintain operational momentum to rid Taraba State of criminal elements and threats to lives and property.
He also reiterated the brigade’s commitment to its reward and sanction policy, assuring that officers and soldiers involved in the successful operation would be duly recognized for their diligence and dedication to duty.
The interception is part of ongoing efforts by the army to curb the proliferation of illegal arms and sustain peace and security across Taraba and its environs.
