Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 ‘Operation Whirl Stroke’ have arrested a suspected gunrunner, Alhaji Adamu Usman, in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The arrest, which occurred on January 13, 2025, followed a carefully coordinated operation based on credible intelligence.
According to a statement issued by the acting spokesperson of the brigade, Capt. Oni Olubodunde, the operation led to the recovery of a fabricated sub-machine gun believed to be linked to illegal arms trafficking.
“During the search of the suspect’s residence in Maraban Gassol, troops uncovered an illegally fabricated sub-machine gun. The operation was executed with precision and professionalism,” the statement read.
Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, commander of the 6 Brigade, commended the troops for their gallantry and reiterated the brigade’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and combating the proliferation of illegal arms in the state.
He further called on the public to assist security agencies by providing credible information to help tackle security challenges effectively.
The operation, according to the statement, aligns with the army’s efforts to curb illegal arms trafficking and enhance security in Taraba State.
