Former England international Kieran Trippier will leave Newcastle United at the end of the season when his contract expires, bringing an influential chapter at St James’ Park to a close.

The experienced right-back joined the Magpies from Atletico Madrid in January 2022, becoming the club’s first major signing following its Saudi-backed takeover.

At the time, Newcastle were battling relegation, but Trippier quickly emerged as a key figure in their transformation under manager Eddie Howe.

During his spell, the 35-year-old played a central role in Newcastle’s resurgence, helping them secure EFL Cup glory last season ending a 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy and contributing to UEFA Champions League qualifications in 2023 and 2025.

In a joint statement, Trippier described his time at the club as deeply emotional, calling it the place where he “felt most at home.”

He expressed gratitude to supporters and teammates, highlighting the cup triumph as the standout moment of his career.

He also paid tribute to Howe, who previously worked with him at Burnley, for placing trust in him during a critical period for the club.

Howe, in turn, praised Trippier’s leadership and impact both on and off the pitch, noting that his professionalism, technical quality, and winning mentality helped raise standards and reshape the team’s direction.

Widely regarded as one of Newcastle’s most impactful modern signings, Trippier’s £12 million move proved pivotal not only stabilising performances on the pitch but also attracting other key players, including midfield talisman Bruno Guimarães.

His departure signals a transition phase for Newcastle, as the club looks to refresh and lower the average age of the squad.

Fans are expected to give the veteran defender a fitting farewell, with many already hailing him as one of the club’s finest-ever right-backs.
