A fatal collision involving two trucks and two motorcycles claimed the life of an unidentified motorcyclist late Tuesday night at Mile 2, inward Cele, Lagos State. The incident, which occurred around 11:48 p.m., threw the area into chaos, leaving one dead and major traffic disruptions in its wake.
According to Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the accident resulted from brake failure on a truck laden with vehicle engines. The out-of-control truck collided with an oncoming Mack truck carrying a 40-foot container and two motorcycles. The impact caused the truck to topple, spilling its cargo across the highway and obstructing traffic flow.

Emergency responders from LASEMA’s Eagle Response Team arrived at the scene by 12:10 a.m., following distress calls received via the 767/112 emergency toll-free lines. Tragically, one motorcyclist was confirmed dead, with his remains taken to the morgue by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) before LASEMA’s arrival. The other motorcyclist miraculously escaped unhurt.
The response operation was swift and collaborative. LASEMA worked alongside LASTMA, the FRSC, the Nigerian Army, and the Nigeria Police Force to manage the chaotic scene. Heavy-duty equipment, including a Hiab crane and a tow truck, was deployed to clear the scattered vehicle engines and remove the accident vehicles. A traffic diversion was implemented to ease congestion, ensuring normal vehicular movement resumed by early morning.
Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu emphasized the importance of vehicle maintenance to prevent mechanical failures, a leading cause of road accidents. He also urged the public to adhere to road safety rules and report emergencies via the 767/112 toll-free lines.
