A tragic event unfolded on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, along Gbagi Market Road in Ibadan, Oyo State, when a police officer, in an attempt to apprehend a fleeing vehicle, accidentally shot and killed a student with a stray bullet.
The heartbreaking incident occurred while the student was seated inside his father’s car.
The young victim, whose identity has not yet been released, was on his way to take his WAEC (West African Senior School Certificate Examination) alongside his twin brother when the tragedy occurred.
Eyewitnesses reported that the sound of gunfire shattered the morning calm, sending the community into a state of shock and disbelief.
Emergency services were called immediately, and the student was rushed to Welfare Hospital.
Unfortunately, medical personnel declared him dead on arrival, leaving family and friends in a state of mourning and despair.

They carried the student’s body to the Oyo State Secretariat in Agodi, urging Governor Seyi Makinde to take immediate action.
