Many people are feared dead after a fighter jet belonging to the Nigerian Air Force allegedly carried out a mistaken airstrike on a weekly market in Jilli Village, Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State on Saturday.
The incident occurred during a busy market day that draws traders from surrounding communities including Gubio, Geidam and nearby settlements along the border with Yobe State.
Sources said suspected insurgents had earlier arrived at the market to impose levies on traders and source supplies.
