Traders in Akwa Ibom have commended Governor Umo Eno for taking time to develop trades and other small businesses in the last one year.
The traders who were led by Senior Special Assistant to Governor on Trade Matters, Akparawa Idorenyin Raphael during an enlarged meeting held in Uyo on Thursday noted the tireless effort of the Governor in business development within a very short period in office.
While applauding Eno for his achievements and continuous support for the welfare of the market people, the traders also passed a vote of confidence for his good performance in office.

The group commended the leadership of the governor’s Aide for performing creditably well by representing their interests and facilitating the implementation of the government initiatives in the market sector.
The group disclosed that various Eno’s achievements in the market sector have not only helped to enhance their trading activities but lifted them out of poverty and empowered them to grow their businesses.
The group listed the achievements to include, the implementation of a 1.5 billion Naira interest-free loan, with 500 million Naira earmarked for each senatorial district, construction of Ndiya street, drainage, and solar light projects in Akpan Andem Market.
Others include the implementation of the AK-Cares initiative, establishment of the Ibom Model Farm and Resort, appointment of traders into key government positions, upgrading of markets as well and provision of infrastructure, such as roads and storage facilities, among others.
The group therefore charged traders to refuse to be forced to belong to any market union, adding that membership should be purely voluntary.
The traders resolved that any group or market union that stops anyone from selling their goods within any market in the State should be banned immediately and their leaders charged in court.
“No induction fee should be above N5,000 for any trader who voluntarily desires to belong to any market union in Akwa Ibom State”.
