Former England and Manchester United player, Wayne Rooney has stated that Tottenham Hotspur is currently at risk of relegation.
Following a 2-0 defeat to Manchester United, Tottenham’s winless streak in the Premier League has reached seven matches, placing Thomas Frank’s team in 15th position, just six points above the relegation zone.
Last season, Spurs finished in 17th place, leading to the dismissal of manager Ange Postecoglou, despite his achievements in the Europa League.
“Considering their current performance, it’s fair to say they are in a relegation battle,” the former Manchester United striker said on The Wayne Rooney Show.
“West Ham is doing well, and Nottingham Forest is managing to pick up points. You can’t overlook the fact that they are at risk of relegation. I believe they will definitely be looking over their shoulders.”
Captain Cristian Romero received a red card in the first half at Old Trafford for a late tackle on Casemiro, marking his sixth expulsion while playing for Spurs.
“I understand why the decision was made, but I think it’s a bit harsh,” Rooney commented. “Sometimes players lose their composure, and I think he has done that during his time at Tottenham.”
This incident came after Romero criticized the club’s management on social media for having only 11 fit players during a 2-2 draw with Manchester City, labeling the situation as “disgraceful.”
“What doesn’t help is the comments made the week prior regarding Tottenham’s lack of players,” Rooney added.

“He clearly speaks his mind, but when you are that vocal, you need to support it with strong performances, and I don’t think he has done that.
This will only heighten the pressure on Thomas Frank.”
Rooney expressed sympathy for Frank, who managed Brentford for seven years before taking the helm at Tottenham last summer.
“I feel for Thomas Frank; he looks worn out and seems to have aged ten years,” he remarked. “That’s the toll the Tottenham job has taken on him in such a short time.
“I hope they decide to keep him because he is a great manager, but I think it will be very difficult for them to do so.
“Additionally, you don’t want your captain getting sent off frequently or being as outspoken as he was this week,” he stated.
