Singer Tiwa Savage has shared her personal journey into motherhood, revealing that she felt no excitement when she gave birth to her son and struggled to form a bond with him during his early years.
In a recent interview with YouTuber Korty EO, the singer revealed that she had always hoped for a daughter and felt emotional upon learning she was having a boy, admitting that she cried during the gender reveal.
Savage described the time after childbirth as difficult, both emotionally and professionally.
She mentioned that she had trouble connecting with her son for the first one to two years, as she dealt with physical changes and low self-esteem.
The award-winning artist shared that she lost a significant brand deal at that time because her body did not return to its previous shape quickly after giving birth, which made her feel rejected and worried that motherhood had negatively impacted her career.

She acknowledged that she unfairly blamed her son for the challenges she faced, thinking that having a child had hindered her professional progress.
However, she noted that her feelings have transformed over time.
She now expresses gratitude for motherhood, describing her son as her best friend and a source of joy and strength.
Savage also discussed how her past relationship experiences have shaped her parenting, emphasizing that she consistently teaches her son the importance of treating women with respect and kindness.
Tiwa Savage welcomed her son, Jamil Balogun, in July 2015 with her former husband, Tunji Balogun. Jamil celebrated his 10th birthday in July 2025.
