The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the revitalization of the Ajaokuta Steel Plant, a project once seen as the heartbeat of the nation’s manufacturing dreams. According to the Minister of Steel Development, Shuaibu Abubakar-Audu, the revival of Ajaokuta is no longer a dream but a project already at an advanced stage, with the potential to unlock massive economic growth, job creation, and industrial development.

Speaking during the Eid el-Kabir celebration in Ogbonicha, his hometown in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State, the minister described the Ajaokuta Steel Plant as a critical pillar in President Bola Tinubu’s economic reform agenda. He noted that bringing the plant back to life will not only boost local production capacity but also significantly reduce the nation’s reliance on imported steel, thereby strengthening the Naira and improving Nigeria’s trade balance.

Abubakar-Audu praised President Tinubu’s bold steps under the “Renewed Hope” agenda, which, he said, are already beginning to yield tangible results. One of such early wins, according to him, is the slight but noticeable reduction in the prices of key food items, a sign that recent policy shifts are beginning to stabilize the economy and ease the burden on Nigerian households.

He called on Nigerians, especially the people of Kogi State to remain steadfast in their support for the Tinubu administration, assuring them that the economic dividends of their patience and support are closer than ever.

The revival of the Ajaokuta Steel Plant, a project that has lingered for decades, could mark a turning point in Nigeria’s journey towards industrial self-sufficiency and economic independence. With a clear strategy and political will, the Tinubu administration says it’s ready to deliver on its promises that many once thought were lost in history.
