A twist was added at the weekend to the presidential campaign of the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. The Director-General of the Tinubu Support Groups Management Council (ABATSGMC), Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin dumped the ruling party.
However, Tinubu was said to have stepped in to resolve the local political squabbles between Jibrin and key stakeholders in his constituency leading to his exiting APC.
The former chairman, House of Representatives Appropriation Committee, who has been politically relegated in the Kano State APC polity disclosed his decision to defect from APC to a yet-to-be-named party at the weekend.
He has been struggling to retain his political career in the state after his suspension from the APC by the Bebeji Local Council chapter, Kano State a year earlier. It was revealed that Jibrin decided to quit the APC because of the decision of the party leadership in Kano State not to give him the party’s ticket to return to the House of Representatives.
Jibrin announced his decision to dump the ruling APC on his official social media accounts, indicating that, he will disclose his next political move within 24 hours.
He said, “I have done my best for APC. Its time to move on. “I will announce my new political party within the next 24 hours insha Allah. I will make a formal statement in due course,” he said, signing off with his name.
Jibrin, lost his reelection bid to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Aliyu Detti Yako in a rerun election on January 25, 2020.
There is palpable apprehension in the Tinubu’s camp over Jibrin’s possible movement to the Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’ new party, the New Nigeria Political Party (NNPP). His defection from APC, no doubt will decimate the influence he could wield for the aspiration of Asiwaju Tinubu in Kano State even though the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, is also a die- hard follower of the frontline APC presidential aspirant.

To save his campaign from looming setback in Kano and the Northwest, Asiwaju Tinubu was said to have reached out to Governor Ganduje to broker a truce and ensure the unity within the Kano State chapter of the APC The source said Asiwaju Tinubu has already intervened on Jibrin’s behalf with Governor Ganduje and that Jibrin may rescind his decision to dump APC if he could be pacified.
