President Bola Tinubu on Monday reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to eradicating terrorism and banditry in Nigeria, assuring citizens that victory is inevitable despite the persistent security challenges keeping leaders “sleepless at night.”

The President made the pledge while declaring open the two day National Economic Council Conference at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

In his opening remarks, Tinubu stressed that insecurity remains a major economic burden undermining national progress. He said the fight against terrorism and violent crime remains a top priority of his government.

“And I am leaving here again to further find means to strengthen our security forces to defeat terrorism, that I promise you. It is what has kept all of us sleepless at night, but I assure you we will win with determination and resiliency,” the President said.

The conference, themed “Delivering Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development: The Renewed Hope National Development Plan,” brought together governors of Nigeria’s 36 states, senior federal and state officials, development partners, private sector leaders, and other key stakeholders.

Presided over by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who chairs the National Economic Council, the summit is focused on critical deliberations around fiscal coordination, investment mobilisation, shared development strategies, and aligning state level policies with the federal government’s long term economic agenda under the Renewed Hope framework.

Tinubu’s remarks on security come amid sustained efforts by his administration to tackle insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes across the country. His assurance is consistent with earlier commitments to reforms in the security architecture, including increased recruitment, improved intelligence gathering, and possible advances in community and state policing.

The President emphasised the direct link between security and economic growth, noting that defeating insecurity is essential to unlocking inclusive prosperity and achieving sustainable development nationwide.

The conference continues through February 10, with expectations that it will produce concrete policy directions to accelerate reforms and deepen collaboration between the federal and state governments.
