President Bola Tinubu will address a joint session of the Senate and the House of Representatives on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja.
June 12 is observed as Democrac Day in remembrance of the annulled June 12,1993, presidential election seen by many as the most credible poll ever conducted in the history of post independence Nigeria.
The election was believed to have been won by the late Moshood Abiola, but it was annulled by the military regime of Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (rtd).
A statement issued on Sunday by the House of Representatives spokesman, Rep. Akin Rotimi, said that the event was formally conveyed to members via an internal memorandum issued by the Clerk of the House, Yahaya Danzaria.
The special joint session is scheduled to hold at the House of Representatives chamber, and will commence at 11:00 am, with preliminary proceedings ahead of the arrival of President Tinubu, at 12:00 noon.
The statement said the theme for this year’s Democracy Day celebration is: ’26 years of democracy: Renewing our commitment to national development.”
