As Muslims across Nigeria celebrate the Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan, President Bola Tinubu and other prominent leaders have called for sustained unity, peace, and national cohesion in the face of ongoing challenges.

In his Eid message, conveyed through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu congratulated Muslims for successfully completing Ramadan.

He urged the faithful to uphold the values of empathy, selflessness, perseverance, and compassion beyond the fasting period.

According to the president, Nigerians must draw from the spiritual lessons of Ramadan, especially at a critical time for the nation.

He emphasized the need for unity across religious and ethnic lines, encouraging citizens to demonstrate kindness and solidarity with one another.

Tinubu also appealed to Muslim leaders and clerics to use the occasion to pray for the country’s peace, stability, and progress.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to its reform agenda, urging Nigerians to support government efforts through collective responsibility and positive action.

Echoing similar sentiments, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, alongside several state governors and political stakeholders, stressed the importance of tolerance, sacrifice, and compassion in addressing the country’s security and economic challenges.

Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi also extended goodwill messages, highlighting unity as a pathway to national development.

Meanwhile, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, who announced March 20 as the day of the celebration following the moon sighting, urged Muslims to pray for leaders and the nation’s continued progress.

Earlier, the federal government, through the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, had declared public holidays to enable Nigerians observe the festival.

Citizens were also encouraged to celebrate responsibly, extend generosity to the less privileged, and offer prayers for national unity and prosperity.

With heightened security measures in place nationwide, including increased police presence, leaders collectively underscored the importance of harmony and peaceful coexistence in a diverse nation navigating complex socio-economic and security realities.
