President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare, operational capacity, and technological advancement of the police.
Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the president made the pledge, during the maiden National Police Day celebration held at the Eagle Square, Abuja on Monday.
The event, which marked a significant milestone in honouring the contributions of the police to national security, featured an impressive display of tactical skills and equipment by various police units.
In his address, Tinubu emphasised the importance of prioritizing the welfare of police personnel and equipping the police with modern tools and technologies to enhance efficiency and crime-fighting capabilities.
He praised the resilience, courage, and sacrifices of police officers across the country, especially in their efforts to curb insecurity and uphold law and order.

The grand celebration showcased a spectacular parade and display by the police, including explosive ordnance disposal robots, specialized disposal vehicles, special intervention squad, air and land response units, K9 units, Police Mobile Force, special protection unit, counter terrorism unit, and peacekeeping paraphernalia, among others.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, described the National Police Day, as a symbol of renewed dedication to professionalism, community partnership, and service excellence.
Egbetokun expressed gratitude to Tinubu for designating April 7, as an annual day to celebrate the Nigeria Police, pledging that the police will deepen its reforms, strengthen community ties, and uphold the rule of law, while ensuring the safety of all Nigerians.
The historic event drew a host of dignitaries, including members of the Federal Executive Council, state governors, lawmakers, service chiefs, retired senior police officers, captains of industry, and representatives from the private sector.
