President Bola Tinubu has directed a nationwide distribution of rice to support Nigerians observing the Ramadan and Lenten fasting periods.
The initiative will be carried out through the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, a political support group of the President.
The development was disclosed by the Director-General of the group and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, in a statement released on Saturday.
According to the statement, the rice distribution is aimed at promoting national unity and showing compassion to citizens during a period that holds strong spiritual importance for both Muslims and Christians.
Uzodinma explained that the fasting seasons of Ramadan and Lent remind people about sacrifice, charity and caring for others.

He said the programme reflects the President’s commitment to unity and support for Nigerians during important religious moments.
The statement added that the Renewed Hope Ambassadors will coordinate the distribution through its nationwide grassroots network to ensure families across the country benefit from the intervention during the fasting period.
A similar rice distribution programme was also carried out during Christmas last year to support citizens during the festive season.
The latest distribution will reach both Muslim and Christian communities across the country, highlighting the administration’s effort to promote inclusiveness and unity.
