President Bola Tinubu has officially launched RenewHER, a new initiative aimed at improving women’s health and reducing the number of mothers who die during childbirth in Nigeria.
The program was inaugurated by Vice-President Kashim Shettima on Friday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
During the launch, President Tinubu emphasized that this initiative addresses one of Nigeria’s most pressing issues and is essential for building a healthier nation.
He highlighted the importance of women’s health for the overall development of the country, stating that it reflects the nation’s character and stability.
According to him, RenewHER will serve as a central point for collaboration between various stakeholders, including the Federal Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Women Affairs, and local governments. The goal is to ensure that women’s health needs are prioritized in every community across Nigeria.
He said as part of the initiative, an AI-powered National Women’s Health Digital Hub will be created. This hub will provide targeted information on essential health topics such as maternal care and adolescent health, helping connect women and families with reliable health resources. The president pointed out that ensuring better health for mothers is crucial for the well-being of families and society as a whole.
Tinubu stressed the importance of collective action against maternal mortality, describing it as a national shame that needs to be addressed. He noted that this initiative will complement existing programs aimed at women’s health and will work alongside international partners for greater impact.
