President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday inaugurated the newly constructed and enhanced terminal at the General Muhammadu Buhari International Airport, Maiduguri, describing the project as a clear example of effective cooperation between the Federal Government and state authorities in rebuilding critical national infrastructure.
Performing the inauguration in his capacity as Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, the President cut the ceremonial ribbon to formally open the modern terminal, marking a key milestone in the ongoing transformation of Nigeria’s aviation sector, particularly in the North East.
Tinubu was accompanied by Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, Katsina State Governor, Mallam Dikko Umaru Radda, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo, and the Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, alongside other senior government officials.
The upgraded terminal was delivered through a joint effort between the Borno State Government and FAAN, under the supervision of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development. The partnership, officials said, reflects a shared resolve to improve airport infrastructure, enhance passenger comfort, and raise operational standards across Nigeria’s major aviation hubs.

Aviation experts at the event noted that the new terminal meets contemporary international standards and is expected to significantly improve the travel experience for passengers using the Maiduguri airport. They added that the facility will support increased air traffic, strengthen safety and reliability, and stimulate economic growth in Borno State and the wider North East region.
The inauguration attracted dignitaries from across the country, including top government officials, aviation professionals, traditional rulers, and community leaders, who described the project as a symbol of progress and renewed hope for the region.
Observers say the completion of the upgraded Maiduguri airport terminal underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to modernising Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure and signals growing confidence in the recovery, stability, and long-term development of Borno State through sustained investment in essential transport facilities.
