President Bola Tinubu is currently in a closed-door security meeting with Nigeria’s military leaders and heads of major security agencies at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The senior security officials arrived at the Villa around 4:30 PM on Tuesday, just three hours after Tinubu appointed former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Christopher Musa (retired), as the new Minister of Defence.
Musa’s appointment came after the resignation of his predecessor, Abubakar Badaru, who stepped down on Monday night.
The meeting is being chaired by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede. Also present are the Chief of Army Staff, Lt General W. Shaibu, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Sunday Aneke, and the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral I. Abbas.

Other notable attendees include the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Lt General Akomaye Undiandeye, the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Oluwatosin Ajayi, and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
This meeting follows President Tinubu’s declaration of a national security emergency less than a week ago due to an increase in kidnappings across the country. He announced new initiatives, including the recruitment of 20,000 additional police officers, the deployment of forest guards, and enhanced security measures in schools, churches, and mosques located in high-risk areas.
Abia State Governor Alex Otti was also seen arriving at the President’s office with a folder, though it is unclear if he is attending the security meeting or visiting for another reason. Otti recently met with IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu at Sokoto prisons.
