President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu were received with full ceremonial honours at Windsor Castle on Wednesday, marking the start of a historic visit to the United Kingdom, the first by a Nigerian leader in 37 years.
The Nigerian First Family was welcomed with a 42-gun salute by the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery, a rare ceremonial gesture reserved for distinguished state guests. Upon arrival, they were received by Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, who accompanied them to a private audience with King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
The two-day state visit is expected to feature a series of high-level engagements aimed at deepening diplomatic, cultural, and economic relations between Nigeria and the United Kingdom. Activities lined up include a formal exchange of gifts, a private viewing of Nigeria-related artefacts from the Royal Collection, and a state banquet at St George’s Hall.
