President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the dissolution of the Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State. This directive also led to the removal of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bernard Ifeanyi Odoh, and the Registrar, Mrs. Rosemary Ifeoma Nwokike.
The council, chaired by Ambassador Greg Ozumba Mbadiwe and comprising Hafiz Oladejo, Augustine Onyedebelu, Engr. Amioleran Osahon, and Rtd. Gen. Funsho Oyeneyin, faced allegations of appointing an unqualified Vice Chancellor without following due process.
This controversial appointment sparked tensions between the university’s Senate and its governing council, prompting federal intervention. A government investigation revealed a blatant disregard for the institution’s governing laws during the selection process.

In a related development, President Tinubu has also approved the dismissal of Engr. Ohieku Muhammed Salami, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State.
Engr. Salami faced accusations of illegally suspending the university’s Vice Chancellor without adhering to established procedures. Despite directives from the Federal Ministry of Education to reverse the unlawful suspension, Salami allegedly refused, resorting instead to threats and abusive behavior towards ministry officials, including the Permanent Secretary.

President Tinubu has warned against actions that disrupt academic harmony, emphasizing his administration’s focus on elevating education standards across the nation.
