President Bola Tinubu has expressed his condolences to world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua after he was involved in a tragic road accident on Monday along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
The incident, which took place on the busy highway, resulted in the deaths of two individuals, while Joshua suffered injuries and is currently receiving medical care.
In a statement addressing the situation, President Tinubu offered his sympathies to Joshua and the families of the deceased, calling the event a heartbreaking loss.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to you following the tragic accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, which resulted in the loss of two lives and left you injured,” the President remarked.
He noted that the incident has cast a pall over the season, highlighting the emotional toll it has taken on Joshua and his family.
“This profound tragedy casts a significant shadow over this season. I empathize with you and your family as you navigate the emotional challenges of this unfortunate event,” Tinubu stated.
The President also commended Joshua for his contributions to sports and his representation of Nigeria on the international stage.

Emphasizing the importance of unity and support during tough times, Tinubu prayed for strength and healing for the boxer.
“In times like these, we must uplift one another as brothers and sisters with a shared destiny. I pray for strength, wisdom, and grace for you during this difficult time. May God grant you a swift recovery and rest to the souls of those who have passed,” the statement concluded.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Government has confirmed that two male foreign nationals died at the scene of the accident, while Joshua survived and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
