President Bola Tinubu has congratulated former President Goodluck Jonathan on winning the 2025 Sunhak Peace Founders’ Award.
In a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Strategy and Communication, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu applauded the former president for his consistent advocacy for peace, harmony, and communality, a patriotic endeavour that has earned him global recognition.
Tinubu stated that Jonathan’s winning of the Sunhak Peace Award affirms his bold efforts in peace-building and promoting democracy in Africa and beyond.

The president recalled the former president’s historic acceptance of the results of the 2015 presidential election, and his peaceful handover of power to an opposition party, which bolstered the nation’s democratic profile.
Tinubu, in celebrating this landmark achievement with former President Jonathan, thanked the Sunhak Peace Prize Committee for recognising the efforts of those working hard to improve the world.
Also, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has congratulated Jonathan on winning the award, stating “congratulations to former President Goodluck Jonathan, on being awarded the 2025 Sunhak Peace Prize.
Atiku said the award is significant because Jonathan is the first African leader to receive this honour, adding that “it’s well deserved.”
