President Bola Tinubu has congratulated winners of Saturday’s area council elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and winners of the by-elections in Kano and Rivers States, urging them to serve with humility, patriotism and dedication.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president applauded the successful conduct of the polls by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
INEC conducted elections across the six FCT area councils—Abuja Municipal (AMAC), Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Kwali and Abaji—covering chairmanship and councillorship positions.
The electoral body also held by-elections in Ahoada East II and Khana II state constituencies in Rivers State, as well as Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies in Kano State.
According to results declared so far, the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured victories in four of the six FCT area councils—Abaji, Kwali, AMAC and Bwari—while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won in Gwagwalada.
In the state constituency by-elections, the APC clinched both seats in Rivers State.
Tinubu described the mandate given to the winners as “a sacred trust,” urging them to justify the confidence reposed in them by the electorate through selfless service and accountability.

The president specifically commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as “remarkable achievements” in the territory, noting that the administration’s performance had translated into political gains for the governing party.
Tinubu also congratulated the APC national leadership, as well as party structures in Kano and Rivers States, and members nationwide for the victories recorded at the polls.
The president lauded INEC, security agencies and voters for ensuring the peaceful and orderly conduct of the elections.
He further praised the contestants for their discipline and courage, saying democracy thrives on active participation and healthy competition.
“President Tinubu affirms that the successful conduct of the elections further strengthens democratic culture and institutions and calls on INEC to continue improving its efforts to deliver even more exemplary electoral processes,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the PDP has inaugurated a special legal team to handle election petitions arising from the FCT Area Council polls, signalling possible post-election legal battles in the coming days.
