President Bola Tinubu has extended his condolences to renowned Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and her husband, Dr. Ivara Esege, over the loss of their son, Nkanu Nnamdi.
The 21-month-old child passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2025, after a short illness.
In a condolence message released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Thursday, January 8, the president remarked that losing a child is the most heartbreaking experience a parent can endure.

“With profound sorrow, I express my condolences to Ms. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, her husband, Dr. Ivara Esege, and their entire family on the passing of their son, Nkanu Nnamdi,” the statement said.
“As a parent who has experienced the loss of a loved one, I understand that no grief is as overwhelming as that of losing a child.
“I stand in solidarity with the family during this challenging time and share in their mourning. Ms. Adichie is a literary icon who has brought joy and inspiration to many around the world, and I pray that she and her family find strength in the Almighty during this difficult period. My thoughts and prayers are with them.”
