President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the issuance of critical regulatory licenses for the Kolmani Integrated Development Project, a multibillion-dollar oil exploration initiative located between Bauchi and Gombe states. The move signals renewed momentum for oil production in Northern Nigeria and a strategic push to unlock the region’s vast energy potential.

The announcement was made during the groundbreaking ceremony for the permanent site of the Bauchi Oil and Gas Academy (BOGAA), held in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State. Speaking at the event, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, emphasized that the activation of regulatory frameworks is essential for transforming the energy sector and ensuring long-term economic growth.

According to a statement issued by Lokpobiri’s Special Adviser on Media and Communication, Nneamaka Okafor, the president’s approval aims to fast-track development in the Kolmani region, enhance oil production, and drive prosperity. Lokpobiri highlighted that with this bold step, President Tinubu is reaffirming his commitment to utilizing Nigeria’s energy assets as catalysts for national development.

He noted that the establishment of the Bauchi Oil and Gas Academy reinforces the state’s strategic role in developing the technical workforce required for Nigeria’s energy revolution. The academy is expected to partner with the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) to advance skills training, foster innovation, and ensure sustainability across the oil and gas value chain.

The Kolmani Integrated Development Project, first launched in November 2022, marked the historic beginning of oil exploration in Northern Nigeria. Situated in the Kolmani River II oil field, a boundary area between Bauchi and Gombe, the project is spearheading a new frontier for Nigeria’s hydrocarbon exploration.

Recently, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Bayo Ojulari, announced that drilling operations would soon resume in the Kolmani field, raising hopes for increased domestic production and energy independence.

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, commended the Federal Government’s support, stating that the oil and gas academy will be a cornerstone for human capital development and innovation. He expressed confidence that the institution would not only empower local talent but also serve as a national hub for energy education and research.
