President Bola Tinubu has approved a salary increase for the military, pledging improved welfare and accommodation for troops serving the nation.
The announcement was made during an interfaith breaking of fast with service chiefs at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The gathering brought together senior military leaders and government officials as part of activities marking the Muslim fasting period.
During the event, Tinubu stressed the importance of supporting members of the armed forces who often operate under difficult conditions while protecting the country.
“The interfaith breaking of fast together reflects the diversity of our nation,” Tinubu said.
“I have listened to the Chief of Army Staff, and the recent approvals given to the Army are well placed. Your sacrifices will not go unnoticed, and your welfare, accommodation, and family support will take top priority.”

The president acknowledged that many soldiers serve far from their families and face significant risks while tackling security challenges such as banditry and terrorism in different parts of the country.
Tinubu expressed deep appreciation to officers and personnel of the armed forces for their commitment to defending the nation’s sovereignty and maintaining national security.
He assured them that his administration would continue to strengthen support systems for the military, including improved living conditions, welfare packages and opportunities that would keep troops motivated.
The move is expected to boost morale among service members as Nigeria continues to address security threats and stabilise affected communities.
