President Bola Tinubu has forwarded a fresh batch of 32 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for confirmation, in what marks the second phase of his ongoing diplomatic postings.

The new list, transmitted to Senate President Godswill Akpabio through two separate letters, contains 15 career diplomats and 17 non-career nominees.

The president urged the Senate to give the nominations expeditious consideration and confirmation.

According to the documents, 10 women are featured across the two categories — four career nominees and six non-career nominees.

Prominent Names on the Non-Career List

The non-career nominees include:

Reno Omokri – former presidential aide (Delta)

Prof. Mahmud Yakubu – former INEC Chairman

Erelu Angela Adebayo – former Ekiti First Lady

Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi – former Enugu State Governor

Barrister Ogbonnaya Kalu – Abia

Tasiu Musa Maigari – former Speaker, Katsina House of Assembly

Yakubu N. Gambo – former Plateau Commissioner & former Deputy Executive Secretary, UBEC

Prof. Nora Ladi Daduut – former Senator, Plateau

Otunba Femi Pedro – former Lagos Deputy Governor

Chief Femi Fani-Kayode – former Aviation Minister

Barrister Nkechi Linda Ufochukwu – Anambra

Fatima Florence Ajimobi – former Oyo First Lady

Lola Akande – former Lagos Commissioner

Sen. Grace Bent – former Adamawa Senator

Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu – former Governor of Abia

Senator Jimoh Ibrahim – businessman, lawyer & Senator (Ondo)

Amb. Paul Oga Adikwu – former Ambassador to the Holy See

Strategic Postings Ahead

The nominees, once cleared by the Senate, are expected to be deployed to countries with strong diplomatic and economic ties to Nigeria, including China, India, South Korea, Canada, Mexico, UAE, Qatar, South Africa, and Kenya, as well as permanent missions such as the UN, UNESCO, and the African Union.

This batch comes just a week after President Tinubu submitted an initial trio of nominees:

Ambassador Ayodele Oke (Oyo)

Ambassador Amin Mohammed Dalhatu (Jigawa)

Retired Colonel Lateef Kayode Are (Ogun)

The first three are reportedly being considered for postings to the United States, the United Kingdom, or France.

Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga said more nominations will follow as the administration strengthens its diplomatic presence worldwide.
