Fear and confusion enveloped Abuja last night as Kuje Medium and Maximum Security Prisons in the Federal Capital Territory came under attack. However, operatives of the Department of State Services and Nigeria Police were battling the attackers as at press time.
In the attack on Tuesday night, explosives, said to be bombs, were used by the attackers first on the maximum prison. The first explosion was reported to have gone off at about 10.25pm, according to a report. Two others followed in quick succession with sporadic gunshots.
Then followed explosions at the Kuje Medium Security Prison. As at press time, operatives of the DSS and the Police were reported to have joined those of the Nigeria Correctional Centre in battling the attackers.
Meanwhile, the convoy of President Muhammadu Buhari has been attacked by gunmen in Daura, Katsina State. The development was confirmed by the spokesman of the President, Mallam Garba Shehu, in a statement late on Tuesday. However, Buhari was not in the convoy. It was the advance team of the President.
The statement on the development however said no one died as operatives of the Military, Department of State Services and Nigeria Police repelled the gunmen. Two persons were, however, injured.

Shehu said: “The Presidency has described as sad and unwelcome, the shooting incident near Dutsinma, Katsina State, at the convoy of cars carrying the Advance Team of security guards, protocol and media officers ahead of the President, Muhammadu Buhari’s trip to Daura for Sallah.
“The attackers opened fire on the convoy from ambush positions but were repelled by the military, police and DSS personnel accompanying the convoy. “Two persons in the convoy are receiving treatment for the minor injuries they suffered.
All the other personnel, staff and vehicles made it safely to Daura.” An Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Aminu Umar, Area Commander Dutsinna, Katsina State, was shot dead by over 300 armed bandits operating on motorcycles with AK47 rifles and Machine Guns (GPMG). They ambushed the officer and his team in Zakka forest, Safana LGA of Katsina State.
