Six terrorist leaders, 3,858 terrorists, families surrender to troops

The Defence Headquarters has stated that six top terrorist commanders have surrendered to the troops of Hadin Kai operating in the Northeast.

This was disclosed by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj-Gen Benard Onyeuko, on Thursday in a press briefing held at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja.

According to Gen Onyeuko, the terrorists surrendered on Wednesday at Gwoza. He gave their names as Mallam Mala Hassan (WALI), Ali Madagali (MUNZUR), Musa Bashir (CHIEF ANUR), Buba Dahiru (MUNZUR), Jafar Hamma (KAID) and Abbali NAKIB Polisawa while noting that this was the first time that such high calibre of Commanders were surrendering.

He further stated that about 3,858 Boko Haram terrorists and their families also surrendered to troops between 1 – 14 July 2022.

“Also, about 3,858 Boko Haram Terrorists and their families surrendered between 1 – 14 July 2022, comprising 505 males, 1,042 Females and 2,311 children.

“Furthermore, in the theatre, troops neutralized several Boko Haram/Islamic State of West African Province terrorists within the period under review at different encounters at Gamage village in Dikwa Local Government Area, Dikwa – Gambora Ngala road, Pulka – Gwale road in Borno State among others.

“Several terrorists logistics suppliers/collaborators were arrested with various items at various logistics towns within the theatre. Among them were two women namely; Hauwa Gambo and Khadija Dirsa,” the General said.

Also, the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai was said to have conducted air interdiction operations at Tumbum Jaki and Tumbum Murhu near Lake Chad in Borno State on the receipt of intelligence report on the activities of the insurgents in the general area.

Onyeuko said the operation led to the death of about 21 terrorists.

Meanwhile, troops of Hadarin Daji neutralized two terrorists and recovered weapons at Sambo village in Dandume Local Government Area Katsina State. More so, one Mallam Sani Umar Wara, who was serving at Zuru Correctional Centre but was kidnapped at Kofar Gabas town in Shinkafi LGA on 2 July 2022 was rescued by troops at Maberiya Village in Shinkafi LGA of Zamfara State.

In the South-South region, troops discovered and destroyed 109 illegal refining sites, 34 wooden boats, 150 storage tanks, 119 ovens, and 104 dugout pits.

“Cumulatively, within the period under review troops recovered 27 pumping machines, 1 weapon, 1-speed boat, 13 vehicles, 7 outboard engines, Four Million Three Hundred Thirty-Nine Thousand (4,339,000) litres of crude oil, Two Million Fifty-One Thousand (2,051,000) litres of AGO and Thirty Thousand (30,000) litres of DPK,” Onyeuko said.

He added that 24 economic saboteurs were also arrested by the troops within the same period.
