The muscle flexing and tension between Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri and the Bayelsa coordinator of the pro-Wike political movement, The New Associates, Alabo George Turner is not abating.
Since the former Special Assistant, Youths in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) announced plans to host the inauguration of the Bayelsa branch of the pro-Wike political movement, The New Associates, tension has continued to rise between the two Bayelsa sons and their followers.
Governor Diri has maintained that it is not politically advisable to bring such an event to Bayelsa given the ongoing crisis in Rivers which is contiguous to Bayelsa.
The Governor had said he was not averse to holding rallies in the state, but the peace and stability of the state should take precedence over any other consideration and asked Turner to take the proposed rally out of the state.
The State Government had gone ahead to obtain a court order restraining the organisers of the New Associates, interpreted as Nyesom Ezenwo Wike (NEW) Associates from holding the rally.

The rally earlier scheduled for April 12, 2025 was later rescheduled to hold on April 26, 2025, same.venue in Yenagoa, after Turner had written a letter to President Tinubu raising alarm that his life and members of his family were in danger because of his support to Tinubu ‘s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Our correspondent has however gathered that the Bayelsa State Government has again scheduled to receive former Governor of Sokoto State, Senator Tambuwal and his political movement, The New Democrats on.April 26, 2025, same venue and time with the rescheduled pro-Wike rally.
It remains to be seen how the two gladiators would navigate the brewing crisis to avoid issues escalating to the point of the quagmire in Rivers State.
