The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the restoration of full bulk power supply through the 132/33kV Katampe-Central Area Lines 1 and 2 at 5:55pm on Thursday.

This crucial development marks the restoring of stable electricity service to the Abuja, following a challenging period of disruption.

It would be recalled that on n January 17, 2025, an underground 1×400mm cross-linked polyethene copper conductor was vandalized, leading to a severe power outage that persisted for more than six weeks.

This disruption not only affected residents in Abuja, but also required TCN to implement back-feeding for several feeders to mitigate the impact on the community.

In light of this incident, TCN emphasized its commitment to maintaining a reliable power supply across the nation, and is actively encouraging the public to support its ongoing nationwide campaign against the vandalisation of power infrastructure.

In a related development, TCN has commenced the construction of a new switch yard for the 330KV Kaduna-Jos double circuit transmission line bay.

This initiative is expected to address the current limitations in the power lines, thereby increasing grid flexibility and improving overall system reliability.

The completion of this switch yard will facilitate better management of electricity distribution, ensuring that more communities benefit from a stable power supply.

Furthermore, the Jos sub-region of TCN reports the arrival of a new 100MVA 132/33KV power transformer at its Jos 132/33kV transmission sub-station on February 14, 2025.

This upgrade is significant, as the new transformer will enhance the sub-station’s capacity by an additional 80MW. This increase in capacity is crucial for the Jos Electricity Distribution Company, allowing it to distribute more bulk power to its customers across Jos, Bauchi, surrounding areas, and parts of Kaduna.

This initiative not only strengthens the power infrastructure, but also supports the growing demand for electricity in these regions, paving the way for improved service delivery and economic development.
