The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that it will carry out scheduled preventive maintenance on its T1 40MVA, 132/33kV power transformer located at the McPherson Transmission Substation in Ibadan. The maintenance exercise is set to take place on Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
According to the official statement signed by TCN’s General Manager, Ndidi Mbah, the routine maintenance is necessary to ensure continued optimal performance and reliability of the equipment. As a result of the maintenance, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) will be unable to access power from the affected transformer during the period, thereby disrupting supply to customers reliant on this source.
The company assured the public that the shutdown is a vital part of its annual preventive strategy to keep the transmission infrastructure in top condition and to prevent unexpected failures that could lead to prolonged blackouts. The exercise will include thorough inspections and technical adjustments to boost the efficiency and lifespan of the transformer.
