The Chairman of the Taraba State Sports Council, Jime Yongo, has commended the Taraba State House of Assembly and Governor Agbu Kefas for the recent passage and signing of the Sports Commission Bill into law.
Speaking in an exclusive interview in Asaba, Delta State, where he is attending the ongoing 9th National Youth Games, Yongo described the legislation as a major step forward for the development of sports in the state.
“The unanimous support of the House and the swift assent by Governor Kefas reflect a deep commitment to the future of sports in Taraba,” he said.
Yongo also expressed gratitude to Gov. Kefas for the opportunity to serve, noting the administration’s efforts in revitalizing the sports sector.
“I am always ready to give my all to the development of sports in Taraba State,” he stated, adding that, “I am proud to work under the leadership of a governor who genuinely supports youth and sports development.”

Highlighting recent achievements, Yongo pointed to Taraba State’s participation in national sporting events, including the National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State, and the ongoing National Youth Games in Asaba, as evidence of growing momentum in the state’s sports scene.
However, the chairman emphasized that sports development cannot rest solely on government shoulders.
He called on private sector players and non-governmental organizations to invest in grassroots sports and sponsor local initiatives.
Reaffirming the council’s commitment to advancing sports in Taraba, Yongo urged continuous collaboration with stakeholders to harness the potential of the state’s youth through structured and well-funded sporting programs.
