Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has suspended his planned defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the recent abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State.
In a statement issued Tuesday in Jalingo, the governor described the incident as “heartbreaking,” noting that it would be insensitive to proceed with any political activity while the victims’ families and the nation remain in grief. He offered his sympathy to the affected families and extended condolences to the Federal Government.
Kefas said the safety and well-being of children must take precedence over political realignments, adding that the decision to halt the defection event was both necessary and considerate. He called on security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the release of the abducted girls.

The defection rally, earlier scheduled for 19 November 2025, has been put on hold pending further consultations and an improvement in the security situation.
Meanwhile, political maneuvering in Taraba State has heightened ahead of the governor’s eventual move. Over the past 48 hours, all PDP members in the State House of Assembly, local government chairmen, cabinet members, and top government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, have defected to the APC.
Some party chieftains who spoke with our reporter commended Governor Kefas for the postponement, describing it as a gesture of compassion and solidarity with the abducted Kebbi schoolgirls and their families.
