The Bubong cattle market in Zing Local Government Area of Taraba State has become a thriving livestock hub, drawing buyers from across Nigeria and Cameroon. Held every Wednesday, the market is booming with activity as traders from Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi, and even Cameroon flock to buy and sell cattle, goats, and rams.
Livestock traders credit the market’s success to new infrastructure, such as boreholes, pavilions, and solar-powered lighting, which have improved operations. Alhaji Aminu Umar, the market chairman, praised the local council’s support, urging the state government to further empower cattle buyers. He believes this would attract even more buyers from around the country.
Regular traders also share in the optimism. Alhaji Nura Inuwa, a frequent buyer from Adamawa State, expressed satisfaction with the market’s steady growth, noting that it has allowed him to purchase large numbers of cattle with ease. Similarly, Alhaji Shehu Yahaya from Gombe State highlighted how the market’s proximity has significantly reduced transportation costs for him and his fellow traders.

International buyers are also taking notice. Babangida Sadiq, a buyer from Cameroon, described the market as one of the most active in the region. He hopes his home government will replicate the success by establishing a similar market in Cameroon.
The bustling activity in Bubong’s cattle market is providing economic relief for local families, as the head of the goats and sheep section emphasized the financial benefits it brings to the community. With increasing patronage and a growing reputation, the market is poised to become a key player in Nigeria’s livestock trade.
