The Taraba State Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development, in partnership with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), has rescued eight trafficked children from Minda Village in Lau Local Government Area.
Speaking at a press briefing in Jalingo, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Mrs. Mary Sinjen, revealed that the children were deceived and trafficked to southeastern states, including Aba, Onitsha, and Imo, under false claims that they were orphans.
According to her authorities intercepted the traffickers in Gembu, Sardauna Local Government Area, successfully halting their illegal operation.
From investigation, the rescued children have been reunited with their biological parents in March 2025.
Mrs. Sinjen credited the swift intervention of the Ministry and NAPTIP for ensuring the children’s safe return to Taraba State.

She further disclosed that the principal suspect, identified as Mrs. Patience, along with several accomplices, has been arrested and remains in custody while legal proceedings are ongoing.
She said efforts are still underway to locate and rescue the remaining trafficked children.
Condemning the act, Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting vulnerable children across the state.
Authorities have urged residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities, emphasizing that safeguarding children is a collective responsibility.
The state government also reiterated its dedication to justice, victim rehabilitation, and strengthening inter-agency collaboration to combat human trafficking effectively.
