President of the Port Harcourt Township United Pressure Group, Hon. Prince John Tamunokuro, has declared his interest and intentions to run for the Mayorship of Port Harcourt City in the forthcoming elections.
This followed developments leading to the Local Government Council elections in Rivers State scheduled for October 5, 2024.
Tamunokuro, an entrepreneur and philanthropist, who made the declaration at an event in Port Harcourt Township recently, said the City of Port Harcourt has faced challenges bothering on its growth and rapid development for too long.
Speaking at the event, he listed the challenges of Port Harcourt City to include inadequate infrastructure, poor waste management system, traffic congestion and lack of opportunities for youths to develop and empower themselves, educationally, socially and economically, promising to remedy the deficiencies by providing sustainable solutions to them if elected as Mayor of the Garden City.

He also promised to bring a new era of leadership anchored on transparent, accountable and responsive approach in meeting the needs of the people of Port Harcourt City, while restating that his vision is to build a modern, vibrant and inclusive Port Harcourt City where everyone will have access to opportunities and resources to enable them to thrive in their different endeavours.
The Mayorship hopeful, who stressed that he was driven by the vision of making the city safer and more secure, therefore, urged on voters in the area to support him to realize his aspiration so that they could all jointly work towards building a Port Harcourt City that they will all be proud of.
Also speaking, a seasoned politician and Chairman of the event, Hon. Oribiye Kieniabere, who described Tamunokuro as a man of vision and courage who has come to challenge the status quo, encouraged all present to reach out and garner support for Tamunokuro to become the next Mayor of Port Harcourt City.
Kieniabere urged the supporters to be unwavering in their support, even as they stand firm till the vision is achieved, advising them to be courageous and not fickle minded, adding that with their firm resolve to support the aspirant, victory will be achieved at the end.
In their goodwill messages, Chief Tanko Kenneth Sunday, Elder Hassan Onipe Muhammed, Alabo Hon. Napoleon D. Hezekiah and Mrs. Evelyn Ngo, among others, prayed for the success of Tamunokuro’s vision and expressed the hope that he will be the next Mayor of Port Harcourt City and that those who work for his victory will benefit from his purpose-driven leadership at the end of the day.
