Former Minister of Defense, Theophilus Danjuma, has renewed his call for Nigerians to take greater responsibility for their personal and communal safety amid rising insecurity.
Pointing to the security challenges bedeviling the country, he stated that the government’s efforts alone are insufficient to tackle the country’s worsening insecurity.
Speaking at an Easter appreciation event held in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State, Danjuma emphasised the need for self-defense in the face of escalating attacks by bandits and terrorists.
“If our people do not stand up and defend themselves, bandits and terrorists will take over our society,” he warned.

The elder statesman urged communities to remain vigilant, stressing the importance of unity, preparedness, and proactive measures to safeguard lives and property.
He warned that failure to act could lead to further chaos and societal breakdown.
Danjuma also used the occasion to express gratitude to his staff, partners, and affiliates. In particular, he lauded the TY Danjuma Medical Centre team for their unwavering commitment to providing essential healthcare services under difficult conditions.
The event, which combined festive celebration with a serious security message, served as a platform for Danjuma to reiterate his longstanding advocacy for citizen-led security initiatives.
