The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has honoured two prominent Taraba sports figures, Alhaji Fadalla Habu Feri and Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Moyoyo, in recognition of their exceptional contributions to sports growth and youth development in the state.
The distinguished duo received their awards during SWAN’s 60th anniversary celebration held over the weekend at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
The milestone event attracted sports administrators, journalists, and enthusiasts from across the country to celebrate six decades of sports journalism and development in Nigeria.
SWAN President, Isaiah Benjamin, described the recognition as a reflection of Feri and Moyoyo’s unwavering dedication to grassroots sports and youth empowerment, particularly in Taraba State.
In his remarks after receiving the award, Alhaji Fadalla Habu Feri, a senior customs officer, expressed deep appreciation to SWAN for the honour. He reaffirmed his commitment to discovering young talents and mentoring the next generation of athletes.
Feri disclosed that through his grassroots sports initiatives in Southern Taraba, three promising athletes had already been discovered and are currently undergoing trials abroad.
He also commended the Taraba State government for prioritizing sports development and called on well-meaning individuals to support the state’s vision of elevating its sporting profile.
He further advised youths across Taraba and Nigeria to remain focused on their goals and steer clear of activities that could jeopardize their futures.
Also honoured, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Moyoyo who was recently appointed to the Taraba State Sports Commission, described the award as a motivation to intensify his efforts in promoting sports.
He pledged continued collaboration with the Commission, SWAN, and the state government to advance sports development across Taraba.
Reiterating SWAN’s commitment, President Benjamin assured that the Association would continue to recognize individuals whose efforts contribute meaningfully to shaping Nigeria’s sporting landscape.
