National Leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has solicited the support of its Senate Caucus for the realization of his ambition to be nominated as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 election.
He told the cross section of senators from the ruling party that he is an unusual candidate, being a former governor, former senator and aspiring President.
He emphatically told them “I want to beg you to look at my capacity and experience.”
The former governor of Lagos State who was at the National Assembly to court the backings of APC lawmakers first met with the Ahmed Lawan – led senators.
Tinubu in clear terms said: “I came for your counsel, partnership and support. I can’t do it by myself,I can’t do it by sitting at home or relying on my followers one.
“We need to go into this with a team. Am asking for that teamanship here today to get me to the position of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.
“You can back me successfully for the nomination of my lifetime ambition”, he said added that “the leadership that is unfolding is the leadership Nigeria need.”
Tinubu promised that under his presidency, Nigeria will be more united. “We need that unity to achieve our unrealizable potentials”, he added.
Responding, President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan commended Tinubu for recognizing the importance of the Senate Caucus as a fundamental stakeholder in the party, The Trumpet gathered.
He, on behalf of the Caucus commended the presidential aspirant for his contribution to Nigeria’s democracy.
Lawan said “you have done so much as as a governor , a senator and you remain a senator . We have learnt a lot from you.

“I want to assure you that APC Caucus in the Senate and National Assembly will continue to work hard till the end of our tenure.
“Your Excellency, we are with you”.
However, the Senate President said the fortune of APC at the polls in the next general election will be determined by performance of APC administration.
Lawan said “2023 will be defined by what we do between now and then and between 2015 and now. As a party we must continue to be progressive in our thinking and action”.
He gave a stewardship of performance of the 9th Senate which he said has nearly achieved all items listed on its legislative agenda.
