Super Eagles defender, William Troost-Ekong as thrown his support behind his teammates to break the two games goalless run in the FIFA World Cup second leg playoff with the Black Stars of Ghana in Abuja.
The Nigerian senior men’s team last scored in their last three-game against Cape Verde but have been goal-drought after their exit from the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
Despite the challenges, the Watford defender is confident that the inclusion of Emmanuel Dennis and Odion Ighalo is a boost to the attacking line up of the Super Eagles The Trumpet gathered.
He said, “I think you can look at it two ways, I think you are missing out some guys that came in, Dennis and lghalo.
“These are all players that are known to score goals and I will back them. I think they’re going to feel even more challenged to score and I assure everybody that they can do that,” he added.
Troost-Ekong acknowledged the defensive performance of the Nigeria team and averred that the team in the last five outings have only conceded a goal.
He continued: “On the other hand, I think that we have only conceded one goal in five games so maybe that’s where our strength lies as well and of course the boys scored in the AFCON as well and I’m not worried about that at all.
“I see them in training everyday and I have seen what they’ve done in the Nigeria jersey, it’s just a matter of time and I think the statistics are going to be in our favour if they’ve not scored for so long before they’re probably going to score in our Abuja game,” he added.
The Super Eagles technical adviser, Augustine Eguavoen in his own assessment to build a formidable attacking force for the Super Eagles, included Emmanuel Dennis, Victor Osimhen and Odion Ighalo to the national senior men team’s squad against Ghana.
