The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced an extension of its Student Loan Application Portal to allow more students complete their applications for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Fund’s Director of Strategic Communications, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi.
According to the statement, the extension applies specifically to institutions that formally requested additional time, enabling eligible students in those schools to finalise their loan applications.
“The Nigerian Education Loan Fund has approved an extension of its Student Loan Application Portal for institutions that have formally requested additional time for the 2025/2026 academic session,” the statement said.
Commenting on the decision, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NELFUND, Akintunde Sawyerr, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to expanding access to higher education through the loan programme.

“NELFUND remains committed to ensuring that eligible students across participating institutions have the opportunity to access the student loan programme,” he said.
The Fund urged students in affected institutions to take advantage of the extension by completing their applications through the official portal.
NELFUND also reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability and sustainable financing, noting that the student loan initiative is designed to remove financial barriers and improve access to higher education across Nigeria.
