Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Emomotimi Guwor, has stressed that strengthening the institutional performance of state legislatures is critical to Nigeria’s overall development.
Guwor made the remark in Abuja, during a consultative and validation meeting on the needs assessment of state Houses of Assembly, organized by the Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC) in collaboration with the United Kingdom Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
The Delta speaker, who is also the national treasurer of the Conference of Speakers of State Houses of Assembly in Nigeria, said the meeting provided a valuable platform to deliberate on reform areas identified in the assessment conducted across the 36 States.

He commended the quality of contributions at the session, noting that the stakeholders’ commitment underscored the urgency of improving legislative processes and enhancing the effectiveness of state assemblies.
“The functionality of state Houses of Assembly is central to deepening democracy, promoting good governance, and ensuring citizens’ access to government,” Guwor emphasized.
The meeting, held at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, also featured goodwill messages, including one from the Chairman of the Conference of Speakers, Adebo Ogundoyin, alongside presentations and plenary discussions.
