Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Dr. Danladi Jatau, has stressed that a harmonious relationship between executive and legislative arms of government at the local level is critical to achieving meaningful development across communities.
Jatau made the statement on Wednesday during a courtesy visit by councillors from the 13 local government areas of the state at his residence in Lafia. He told the councillors that unity and cooperation between government leaders are the backbone of effective governance, especially at the grassroots where citizens directly feel the impact of public service.
Drawing from his personal political journey from councillor to Speaker, Jatau urged the councillors to rally behind their local government chairmen, adding that mutual respect and collaboration between arms of government would speed up development and improve service delivery across Nasarawa’s rural and urban communities.

Jatau also assured the councillors that the state government would soon organize tailored training programs to boost their legislative performance and capacity to deliver on their mandates. He revealed that plans were in motion to provide their furniture allowances and other entitlements, reaffirming the government’s commitment to their welfare and empowerment.
In a show of solidarity, Mr. Mohammed Madaki, Chairman of the Nasarawa State Councillors Forum and Speaker of Lafia Local Government Legislative Council, expressed the group’s unwavering loyalty to Jatau. He offered heartfelt condolences to the Speaker over the recent loss of his younger sister, Hajaratu, urging him to remain strong in the face of grief while praying for her eternal rest.
Madaki also used the opportunity to appeal for accelerated action on the councillors’ training and welfare benefits, expressing confidence that under Jatau’s leadership, their concerns would be addressed.
