Key stakeholders in urban planning have met to brainstorm on Kano metropolitan city’s master plan, with a view to reviewing and reimaging the metropolis into a modern city.
Speaking during a one-day stakeholders engagement workshop, the state Commissioner for Lands and Physical Planning, Alhaji Abduljabbar Umar, said the current effort in developing a comprehensive master plan is a significant step to re-write history for prosperity and progress in the state.
Represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Muhammad Yahuza, the commissioner said the stakeholders and partners would discuss, strategize and chart a way for a new master plan that conforms with modern development, preserving the past and providing for the future.
The commissioner highlighted that when implemented, the new master plan will promote sustainable development, enhance infrastructural development, foster economic growth, preserve heritage and ensure inclusivity.

While reaffirming the commitment of the present administration under the leadership of Governor Abba Yusuf, to transforming the state into a modern city, he noted that the master plan will accommodate growth, improve quality of life and encourage innovation.
Earlier, the Managing Director of the Kano State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KNUPDA), Hauwa Hassan, said as part of its mandate to plan, develop, and manage urban areas, the master plan is aimed at transforming the state into a modern, organised, technology-driven, investment friendly and tourism attractive state among others.
She however, urged participants to actively participate in the review process in order to have a master plan that will make the state to thrive and provide opportunities for all citizens.
