Tottenham Hotspur has finally sealed a deal to sign Bayern Munich’s rising star Mathys Tel after weeks of negotiations. The structure of the transfer remains unclear, with no confirmation yet on whether it will be a permanent signing or a loan move.
Tel, 19, initially turned down a move to Spurs earlier this month, but reports on Monday suggests that he has now agreed to the transfer. A photo posted by his agent, Gadiri Camara, on Monday showed the duo aboard a private jet, fueling speculation that the deal is imminent.
Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou played a crucial role in convincing Tel to choose Tottenham vs Manchester United, according to European football expert Julien Laurens. “Ange Postecoglou spoke with Mathys Tel at length earlier today and convinced him to come to Tottenham. Huge role played by the Spurs manager to get one of the most coveted youngsters in Europe,” Laurens revealed.

The move comes at a critical time for Tottenham, who recently broke an eight-game winless streak in the Premier League with a 2-0 victory over Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on Sunday. Despite sitting 14th in the league, Spurs remain competitive in cup competitions, having reached the last 16 of the Europa League and the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.
Tottenham is set to face Liverpool in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Thursday, following a narrow 1-0 win in the first leg. If finalized, Tel’s signing will mark Spurs’ second major acquisition in as many days, following the loan arrival of Austria defender Kevin Danso from Ligue 1 club Lens on Sunday.
Tel’s arrival could inject much-needed firepower into Tottenham’s attack, as Postecoglou looks to reshape his squad and turn their season around.
