The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, on Tuesday, administered the oath of office to three newly elected members following their victories in the August 16, 2025, bye-elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The swearing-in ceremony took place at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja.
The new lawmakers are among the five elected to fill vacant seats that arose due to the death of four serving members and the resignation of another, Dennis Idahosa, who was picked as the running mate to Senator Monday Okpebholo in the 2024 Edo State governorship election.
The House had, between 2024 and 2025, lost four members, namely Ekene Adams (Kaduna), Isa Dogonyaro (Jigawa), and Olaide Akinremi (Oyo), while Oriyomi Onanuga passed away in early 2025.
Those sworn in on Tuesday include Omosede Igbinedion, representing Ovia South/Ovia West/Ovia North-East Federal Constituency of Edo State, Joseph Bagudu, representing Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency of Kaduna State, and Mukhtar Rabiu, representing Garki/Babura Federal Constituency of Jigawa State.

However, two other newly elected members, Elegbeji Ayola, who won the Sagamu/Ikenne/Remo North Federal Constituency in Ogun State, and Oyekunle Sunday, who won the Ibadan North Federal Constituency in Oyo State, were absent at the ceremony.
No official reason was given for their absence.
Out of the five bye-election winners, four were elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), while Oyekunle Sunday emerged as the only lawmaker from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The House is expected to resume plenary with the newly inaugurated members participating in legislative activities immediately.
