More shocking videos unfolded in the courtroom as activist Omoyele Sowore submitted another video evidence showing President Bola Tinubu referring to former President Olusegun Obasanjo as a “rotten fish” and describing former President Goodluck Jonathan as a “drunkard.”

The videos were accepted as evidence by Justice Mohammed Umar at the Federal High Court in Abuja, during Sowore’s ongoing trial for alleged cyberstalking.

The Department of State Services (DSS) is prosecuting Sowore for a social media post on August 2025, in which he labeled the Tinubu a “criminal” following a speech Tinubu gave in Brazil.

Sowore’s defense team contended that the prosecution represents a biased exercise of power.

To demonstrate that high-profile insults have long been a part of Nigerian political dialogue without legal repercussions, the defense presented several video clips:

The “rotten fish” comment: A video of then-candidate Tinubu criticizing the Obasanjo administration as a “rotten fish” that emanates a foul odor from the top.

The “drunkard” remark: Footage of Tinubu during the Jonathan administration making derogatory comments about the former president’s leadership and personal habits.

The Reno Omokri video: A clip of newly appointed ambassadorial nominee Reno Omokri branding Tinubu as an “international drug baron.”

A witness from the DSS testified that Sowore’s post could “incite the public” and pose a threat to national security.

However, during cross-examination, the witness conceded that there was no formal complaint from Tinubu himself, nor had the agency taken action against others like Omokri for making even more serious accusations.

After the court session, Omokri released a public statement acknowledging the videos.

He claimed that his earlier comments about Tinubu being a “drug lord” were made mistakenly between 2022 and 2023 and argued that his private apology to the president in 2024, renders his past statements irrelevant to Sowore’s current legal issues.

The court has postponed the case until February 4, 2026, for further proceedings.
